However, with the right air soft gun safety equipment and an adherence to some basic safety guidelines, you can shoot without fear of unexpectedly injuring yourself or someone else. Read on for some basic guidelines for the use of airsoft guns.

1) Always treat airsoft guns as if they are loaded and handle them with care.
2) Do not shoot your gun at anything other than an official safety target. Only put your finger on the trigger if you are ready to fire your gun. Accidental firing particularly at close range can result in damaged eyes or lost teeth.
3) Do not brandish an airsoft gun in a public place. They should be used in designated areas for airsoft gun use.
4) A note to parents of children using airsoft guns. If your child brings an airsoft gun to school or uses it in any other public place they run the risk of being suspended or even arrested. In the worst case scenario they risk being shot by a police officer as airsoft guns are often excellent copies of real firearms and can quite easily be mistaken for the real thing.
5) To minimize the potential for unexpected injury, always be aware of what is behind, beyond and either side of your target before you fire your gun at your target.
6) Airsoft guns shoot plastic pellets at a slower rate than that of a real firearm. Therefore airsoft guns can be used to shoot at human targets without injury but under certain conditions. The most important condition is eyewear. Never shoot at someone who is not wearing proper protective eyewear. Recommended eyewear are eye goggles rated at least ANSI Z87.1 or goggles used for paintball. Always wear eye goggles yourself when you are using airsoft guns.
7) Other recommended safety accessories are a thick jumper or eve a bullet proof vest if possible, plastic hip guards and forearm guards, knee protection and shin guards, steel toe combat boots and leather gloves. Cover all skin areas as much as possible.
8) When transporting your gun to and from a game carry it in a gun case. The gun case is safe, protects your gun and can be used to store Airsoft pistols, accessories and spare magazines. Remember in some places using a case is the only legal way to carry your gun. Respect the laws of the area in which you are carrying your gun.
9) Airsoft guns can not be bought by children under 18 and can only be used by children under 18 if supervised correctly.
10) Be aware of all local and federal laws governing the buying, carrying and use of airsoft guns. Contact your local police department for more information.

Airsoft guns can provide a great deal of fun. Misuse of these types of replica gun can bring unnecessary injury or harm to users and innocent bystanders alike. Airsoft Replicas are NOT toys! They are NOT intended or designed for children. There is a real potential for danger with these products because they are so realistic, effective and inexpensive not to mention the fact that they are in deed a real pellet gun.

Even though they aren't real firearms, they look very much like a real gun. Any "look a like" or toy/BB gun used in a crime carries the same full circumstances as that of a real weapon. These products should be considered as dangerous as real loaded firearms.

For anyone purchasing an AirSoft BB gun, take note that most State Laws require that you must be over 18 years of age to make a purchase. If not over 18, the seller MUST have the written consent of an adult BEFORE they can ship the product and an adult over the age of 18 MUST be available to sign for the product when it arrives at your location.

For your safety, ALWAYS wear eye protection and all Airosft Safety Equipment when operating an AirSoft Pellet / BB gun and allways treat them with the same respect as with a real firearm. They are to be purchased and used by adults 18 years of age or older. Minors MUST have parental supervision when operating these BB guns.

NEVER transport your AirSoft Replica in open view, keep in its protective case. The neighbor lady doesn't know you have a pellet gun that looks a lot like your dad's AK47 and she might call law inforcement out to check on you. Therefore, NEVER brandish or use the AirSoft guns in public areas.

Which brings me to another important point: If you are EVER approached by law enforcement officers, DO EXACTLY what they say and PAY ATTENTION, your life might be on the line! NEVER point or shoot at other people or animals. Check with your local ordinance on ownership and usage before making a purchase. 1)  Don't take off the orange tips of your gun.  That is just asking for trouble...I know you want your gun to look real and cool when you're running scenarios and stuff, but it is was more safe to just bite it and keep the orange tip on there.  Even then, it is still hard to distinguish between an actual and an airsoft gun.

2)  Don't play on public land without permission.  It is definitely best to play in designated airsoft areas or private areas where the public is not exposed or at risk of coming across.  It's gotta be quite startling to be walking around somewhere and just all of a sudden see 4 or 5 guys running through the woods with sniper rifles and ak-47s.  Best thing to to: keep the public away from your airsoft activities.

3)  Consult local authorities before you play a game. This is easy, make sure your local police department knows what you are doing and that you are playing AIRSOFT.  There have been countless injuries, deaths and law suits resulting from misunderstandings with airsoft guns.  The best way to save your own butt and make sure everyone is safe is to just take every precaution possible.

Hey guys, I just wanted to talk real fast about why I love to play Airsoft...I'm hoping a few people read this and will leave comments and maybe even get a little discussion going about why they love Airsoft too. Alright, well to start things off, one of the main reasons I love Airsoft so much is the awesome equipment. Even if i didn't actually play, I think i would still collect the weapons just because of how real and well they are made as excellent replicas to the real thing...I've always been a big gun buff, but we all know how expensive that hobby can be, so this way I can have a great collection of many different types of pistols and rifles and not break my wallet in half.
The actual action of playing Airsoft is a rush in itself...I really takes me back to the times of being a little kid and playing little games like 'Cops and Robbers' except on a much bigger scale. Combat scenarios just sound really cool to me...pretending you are part of a platoon, going into enemy territory, completing dangerous missions and objectives...its one of every guys' fantasy to do something like that in real life. Airsoft gives me a means to come closer to things I have always dreamed of doing. So, now it is your turn...leave a comment and tell me what you love about Airsoft.

As with any sport, or pretty much anything in life...the single MOST important part of it is SAFETY.  SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY!!  Without the proper equipment and guidelines, Airsoft can be a very dangerous activity.  Think about it, what is Airsoft...little plastic balls being shot out of guns at very high speeds with the intention of hitting you...if that doesn't spell out danger than I dont know what does!  Since people are trying to hit you with the bb's, the best way to protect yourself is to make sure all areas of your body are covered and protected.  Obviously, and probably most importantly, you want to protect your eyes...a high speed plastic bb lodged in your eye is a great recipe for a case of permenant blindness.  As a general rule of safety, and even more just a common courtesy...NEVER AIM TO SHOOT SOMEONE IN THE HEAD OR THE FACE...it's just mean and rude, aim for the body, a much safer area!  Also, never shoot at someone who is not playing airsoft or aware of the rules or what to expect.  Never hang out in the woods and shoot at people just walking who have nothing to do with Airsoft...not only is it illegal, but it's just plain mean...don't give other airsoft gun owners a bad name...so with that being said, wear protective equipment and play by the rules!!!!

A Sargeant man has been charged with shooting his two children, ages 9 and 11, with an airsoft pellet gun.

According to the complaint, A Mower County sheriff’s deputy met with a Dodge County sheriff’s deputy on Jan. 6 to retrieve a report documenting child abuse involving a pellet gun.

On Jan. 20, a detective spoke on the phone with the defendant, who would not commit to a time or place to meet with the detective, and asked if his ex-wife reported the alleged incident. He said that he shot one child in the stomach and the other in the chest because he was teaching them that “guns should not be pointed at people.” Records show he claimed his children wanted to know how it felt to be shot.

Both children said it hurt. The defendant, age 40, told officers he shot with hard plastic pellets, which travel at 220 to 325 feet per second, and said they “can put somebody’s eye out easily.”

He told the detective that “sometimes the only way you learn is through the school of hard knocks,” and claimed his father did the same thing to him.

The defendant turned over two guns to the Law Enforcement Center in Austin.

He is charged with two counts of felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon; two counts gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child; and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault.

The defendant, who has not been named to protect the identities of the children, has been summoned to appear in Mower County District Court on March 9. Both victims are residents of Dodge County.
